How to Update iPadOS Before Transferring Data

Ensure a seamless data migration by updating your iPad to the latest version of iPadOS. Follow these precise steps for a successful transfer.

  1. Connect the iPad to power. Plug your iPad into a wall outlet using a certified power adapter. Updates require a reliable power source to prevent the device from shutting down during the installation process.
  2. Verify Wi-Fi network stability. Ensure the iPad is connected to a stable, high-speed Wi-Fi network. Open Settings and verify the connection in the Wi-Fi menu to prevent interrupted downloads.
  3. Check for available updates. Navigate to Settings, tap General, and select Software Update. The system will automatically poll Apple servers to verify if a newer version of iPadOS is available for your device.
  4. Initiate the download. If an update is available, tap Download and Install. Enter your iPad passcode when prompted to authorize the system to begin fetching the installation files.
  5. Install the software update. Once the download completes, tap Install Now. The iPad will restart and display the Apple logo and a progress bar; do not force a restart or disconnect the power during this phase.
  6. Confirm the current version. After the iPad restarts, return to Settings, General, and About. Verify that the Software Version matches the version you just installed to ensure full compatibility for your data transfer.
