How to Fix a Dim iPad Screen
Follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve a dim display on your iPad, covering Auto-Brightness, True Tone, and hardware accessibility settings.
- Adjust brightness via Control Center. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to open the Control Center. Locate the brightness slider, indicated by the sun icon, and drag it upward to the top to increase intensity.
- Disable Auto-Brightness. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Scroll to the bottom of the list and toggle off the Auto-Brightness switch to regain manual control over the light sensor.
- Check True Tone settings. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness. Check if True Tone is enabled; if so, tap the toggle to turn it off to see if the color temperature is affecting your perception of brightness.
- Disable Reduce White Point. Open Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Verify that the Reduce White Point setting is turned off. If enabled, move the slider all the way to the left to ensure maximum white intensity.
- Exit Low Power Mode. Go to Settings > Battery. Ensure that Low Power Mode is disabled. When active, this feature automatically reduces screen brightness to extend battery life.
- Perform a forced restart. If settings changes do not resolve the issue, press and quickly release the Volume Up button, press and quickly release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Power button until the Apple logo appears. This clears temporary cache files that may affect the display controller.
