How to Free Up Storage Space Using Files by Google

Use the Files by Google app to identify, select, and permanently remove junk files, duplicate media, and unused apps to regain Android storage space.

  1. Open the Files by Google application. Locate and open the Files by Google app from your app drawer. If the app is not installed, download it from the Google Play Store.
  2. Access the Clean tab. Tap the Clean icon located at the bottom-left corner of the screen. This section aggregates all suggestions for freeing up space on your device.
  3. Remove junk files. Look for the Junk files card and tap Clean. This action identifies temporary app files and cached data that are safe to delete.
  4. Delete large and duplicate files. Review the Delete large files or Delete duplicates cards. Tap Select files, mark the items you no longer require, and tap Move to Trash or Delete to finalize.
  5. Remove unused applications. Find the Unused apps card and tap Select apps. Review the list of applications you have not opened recently and tap Uninstall to remove them from your device.
  6. Empty the Trash. Navigate to the Browse tab and tap Trash. Select all items and tap Delete to permanently remove them from your device storage.
