How to Use Digital Wellbeing on Android
Learn to monitor and control your Android screen time with Digital Wellbeing. Set app limits, enable Focus mode, and track usage patterns effectively.
- Open Digital Wellbeing settings. Navigate to Settings > Digital Wellbeing & parental controls. On older Android versions, look for Settings > Digital Wellbeing. If you cannot find it, search 'Digital Wellbeing' in the Settings search bar.
- Review your usage dashboard. Examine the circular chart showing your daily screen time and app usage breakdown. Tap the chart to view detailed weekly statistics and usage patterns. The dashboard displays total screen time, app opens, and notifications received.
- Set app time limits. Tap the hourglass icon next to any app in the usage list. Set your desired daily time limit using the hour and minute selectors. Tap 'OK' to activate the limit. When you reach the limit, the app icon will be grayed out on your home screen.
- Configure Focus mode. Tap 'Focus mode' from the Digital Wellbeing menu. Select apps you want to pause during focused work or study sessions. Tap 'Turn on now' to activate immediately, or 'Schedule' to set automatic Focus mode times.
- Enable Wind Down mode. Access 'Wind Down' or 'Bedtime mode' in Digital Wellbeing settings. Set your bedtime schedule and choose Wind Down features like grayscale display, Do Not Disturb, and charging sound restrictions. The phone will automatically enter this mode at your specified bedtime.
- Customize notification controls. Tap 'Manage notifications' to view which apps send the most notifications. Disable notifications for non-essential apps or set them to 'Silent' to reduce interruptions. Review the notification frequency chart to identify notification-heavy apps.
- Monitor unlock frequency. Check the 'Unlocks' section to see how many times you unlock your device daily. Review the timeline to identify your peak usage periods and frequent unlocking patterns. This data helps you recognize unconscious phone checking habits.
