Preparing Your Android Device for Wired Data Transfer
Follow these steps to prepare your Android device for a secure and efficient wired data transfer between phones.
- Update the operating system. Open the Settings app and navigate to System > Software update. Ensure both the source and target devices are running the latest version of Android to prevent compatibility conflicts during the transfer process.
- Verify battery levels. Confirm both devices have at least 50% battery life. Wired transfers consume significant power and a device shutdown mid-process can result in data corruption.
- Remove screen locks. Navigate to Security & privacy > Device unlock > Screen lock. Temporarily disable your PIN, pattern, or biometric security to prevent the transfer from hanging due to authentication prompts.
- Enable developer options. Go to About phone and tap Build number seven times until you see the confirmation that you are a developer. This ensures system permissions are prioritized during the data handoff.
- Configure USB preferences. Open Settings > System > Developer options and locate Default USB configuration. Select File Transfer to ensure the hardware is ready to mount as a data source upon cable connection.
- Establish the physical connection. Connect the USB-C cable to both devices. Observe the target phone for the system prompt to initiate data migration, then follow the on-screen prompts to begin the synchronization.
