Organize Your Android Screenshots Automatically
Stop digging through your gallery. Learn how to isolate, move, and automate Android screenshot management to keep your media library clean and organized.
- Enable the Screenshots Category in Google Files. Open the Files by Google app and tap the menu icon in the top left corner. Select Settings and ensure the Screenshots category toggle is enabled. This creates a permanent, high-level shortcut for all captured images on your device home screen.
- Create a Smart Move Rule. Open the Files by Google app and navigate to the Clean tab. Locate the Move to folder card if active, or manually select your Screenshots folder under the Images category. Use the ellipsis menu to select Move to and define a permanent archive folder on your SD card or cloud sync drive to remove them from your primary camera roll.
- Use Gallery Exclude Files. Open your file manager and navigate to the DCIM/Screenshots directory. Create a new empty file in this folder and name it .nomedia. This command instructs the Android Media Scanner to stop indexing these images in your main gallery app.
- Disable Automatic Screenshot Backup. Open Google Photos and tap your profile icon. Go to Photos settings, then Backup, then Back up device folders. Toggle off the Screenshots folder to ensure your cloud storage remains dedicated to actual camera photography.
- Pin the Screenshots Folder. Open your preferred gallery app, such as Google Photos. Navigate to the Library tab and tap View all folders. Long-press the Screenshots folder and select Pin to top. This ensures your most recent captures remain accessible without scrolling.
