How to Check Android Battery Health

Use system diagnostics and hidden codes to determine the health and cycle count of your Android device battery.

  1. Access the internal test menu. Open the Phone application on your Android device. Type *#*#4636#*#* on the dial pad to trigger the hidden testing interface. If the code does not execute, your device manufacturer has restricted access to this menu.
  2. Review battery status information. Select Battery information from the menu list. Review the fields provided, specifically looking for Battery health, which should report as Good if the cell is functioning within design specifications.
  3. Use AccuBattery for detailed metrics. Download and install the AccuBattery application from the Google Play Store. This app calculates battery capacity by tracking charge current and voltage changes over several charge cycles. You must use the device for several days after installation to generate accurate data.
  4. Check system settings for battery usage. Navigate to Settings > Battery > Battery usage. Observe the application list for abnormal power consumption patterns that indicate high battery drain. Constant high usage from background processes often mimics poor battery health.
  5. Compare capacity against factory specifications. In the AccuBattery Health tab, compare the Estimated capacity against the Design capacity listed on your device's original packaging or manual. If the Estimated capacity is below 80 percent of the Design capacity, the battery has reached a degraded state requiring replacement.
