How to Back Up Android Photos to Google Photos

Learn the most reliable way to back up your Android photos securely using Google Photos. Ensure your media is saved automatically to the cloud.

  1. Install and open Google Photos. Locate the Google Photos app from your home screen or app drawer. If the app is not pre-installed, download it directly from the Google Play Store.
  2. Access account settings. Tap your profile icon located in the top-right corner of the application interface. Select Photos settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. Activate Backup. Select Backup and toggle the switch to the On position. This enables the synchronization service between your local storage and your Google account cloud space.
  4. Select backup quality. Tap Backup quality to choose between Storage saver, which compresses files to save space, or Original quality, which preserves full resolution. Choose based on your available Google One storage quota.
  5. Set mobile data usage. Select Mobile data usage under the Backup settings menu. Choose to limit or disable data usage for backups if you have a restricted monthly data plan.
  6. Confirm completion. Return to the main Google Photos library view. Look for the cloud icon with a checkmark in the top-right corner, indicating that your library is fully backed up.
