How to Transfer Files from Android to Windows
Transfer files from your Android device to a Windows PC using USB tethering or wireless sharing tools. Follow this guide for a seamless connection.
- Establish the physical connection. Connect your Android device to your Windows PC using a high-quality USB data cable. Ensure the cable supports data transfer, as some cables are restricted to power delivery only.
- Set the USB mode to File Transfer. Unlock your Android device and swipe down from the top of the screen to view the notification shade. Locate the notification labeled Charging this device via USB and tap it to reveal the USB settings menu. Select File Transfer or MTP from the available options.
- Open the device in File Explorer. On your Windows PC, press the Windows key + E to open File Explorer. Locate your Android device in the navigation pane on the left, listed under This PC. Double-click the device icon to access the internal storage.
- Locate target directories. Browse the folders to find your desired files. Photos and videos are typically stored in the DCIM folder, while downloads reside in the Downloads directory. Select the files or folders you wish to move.
- Copy files to the computer. Right-click the selected files and choose Copy, or press Ctrl + C. Navigate to the desired folder on your Windows hard drive, right-click an empty space, and select Paste, or press Ctrl + V. Wait for the progress bar to complete before disconnecting the cable.
- Safely disconnect the device. Once the file transfer is complete, close File Explorer. Simply unplug the USB cable from the port. There is no need to eject MTP devices like external storage drives.
