How to Transfer Data to Your New Android Phone
Transfer contacts, photos, apps and data from your old phone to new Android device using Google Backup, Smart Switch, or cable transfer methods.
- Prepare your old phone for transfer. Ensure your old phone is charged to at least 50% and connected to Wi-Fi. Back up your data to Google Drive by going to Settings > Google > Backup and tap 'Back up now'. Wait for the backup to complete before proceeding.
- Set up your new Android phone. Power on your new Android phone and follow the setup wizard. When prompted to copy apps and data, select 'Next' instead of 'Skip'. Choose whether to copy from a cloud backup or directly from your old device.
- Choose your transfer method. Select 'A backup from an Android phone' to restore from Google Drive, or 'A backup from the cloud' for other services. For direct device-to-device transfer, choose 'Copy from old device' and follow the cable or wireless connection prompts.
- Connect your devices for direct transfer. If transferring directly, use the provided USB-C to USB-C cable or USB-A to USB-C adapter. Connect your old phone to the new one and tap 'Next' when both devices recognize the connection. Grant necessary permissions on both phones.
- Select data to transfer. Choose which data categories to transfer: Apps, Call history, Device settings, SMS messages, Contacts, Calendar events, Photos and videos. Deselect any categories you don't want transferred and tap 'Copy' to begin the process.
- Complete the transfer process. Keep both devices connected and avoid interrupting the transfer. Your new phone will display transfer progress and estimated time remaining. Once complete, tap 'Done' and disconnect the cable if used.
- Verify transferred data and download apps. Check that your contacts, photos, and settings transferred correctly. Open the Play Store to reinstall apps that didn't transfer automatically. Sign into your accounts within transferred apps to restore app-specific data.
