How to Transfer Data from Android to Android Using a USB Cable

Transfer contacts, photos, and apps between Android devices using a direct USB cable connection. Follow this precise step-by-step guide.

  1. Power and connect the devices. Ensure both Android devices are charged to at least 50% capacity. Connect the USB-C to USB-C cable to the charging port of the old device, then connect the opposite end to the new device.
  2. Start the setup wizard. Power on the new device and follow the initial welcome screens until you reach the Copy Apps & Data prompt. Select the option to copy data via cable when prompted by the screen interface.
  3. Authorize the connection. Unlock your old device and ensure it is on the home screen. A dialog box will appear asking to trust the connection; select Trust or OK to authorize the data bridge between devices.
  4. Select data categories. The new device will scan the old handset for available data. Check or uncheck categories such as Apps, Photos, Contacts, and Messages based on your requirements, then tap Next.
  5. Finalize the transfer. The transfer process will commence automatically. Keep both devices connected via the cable and remain on the transfer screen until the progress bar reaches 100%.
  6. Disconnect and verify. Once the screen displays Transfer Complete, disconnect the cable. Follow the remaining setup prompts on your new device to finish configuring your Google account settings.
