How to set up passkeys on Android

Secure your accounts on Android using passkeys. Follow this guide to configure Google Password Manager and enable biometric authentication for your logins.

  1. Verify your Google account security settings. Open the Settings app on your Android device. Tap Google, then select Manage your Google Account. Navigate to the Security tab and ensure that 2-Step Verification is enabled to allow passkey functionality.
  2. Navigate to the passkey management menu. In the Security tab of your Google Account, scroll down to the How you sign in to Google section. Tap Passkeys and security keys. Sign in with your current password when prompted to verify your identity.
  3. Create a new passkey. Tap the + Create a passkey button. Your device will prompt you to confirm your identity using your screen lock method, such as your fingerprint, face scan, or device PIN. This creates a secure digital key pair linked to your device hardware.
  4. Confirm the passkey registration. Once biometric authentication is successful, you will see a confirmation screen indicating the passkey has been added. Your device will now automatically suggest this passkey when you sign in to Google services on supported browsers and apps.
  5. Enable Google Password Manager autofill. Go to Settings > Passwords & accounts. Tap on Passwords, passkeys & autofill. Ensure Google is selected as your preferred service to ensure passkeys sync across devices signed into the same account.
