How to Fix Android Messages Not Sending
Troubleshoot and resolve messaging errors on your Android device. Follow these steps to restore SMS and MMS functionality immediately.
- Toggle Airplane Mode. Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to reveal the Quick Settings panel. Tap the Airplane Mode icon to enable it, wait 10 seconds, and tap it again to disable it. This forces the device to re-establish a connection with your cellular network tower.
- Clear Messages App Cache. Open Settings and navigate to Apps > See all apps > Messages. Select Storage & cache and tap Clear cache. Do not tap Clear storage unless you are prepared to potentially lose message drafts.
- Verify SMS Center Settings. Open the Messages app and tap your profile icon. Go to Message settings > Advanced and ensure the SMS Service Center (SMSC) number is correct for your carrier. If the field is blank or incorrect, contact your carrier support for the mandatory string.
- Reset Network Settings. Go to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap Reset mobile network settings and confirm the action. This deletes saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings, so ensure you have your credentials ready to reconnect.
- Check for Carrier Services Updates. Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon. Select Manage apps and device, then locate Carrier Services. If an update is pending, install it immediately and restart your device.
