How to Set Up a New Samsung TV

Setting up a new Samsung TV involves connecting power and cables, running the initial setup wizard, and configuring basic settings. Most Samsung TVs from 2020 onward use the Tizen operating system with a similar setup process.

  1. Connect the power cable and turn on the TV. Plug the power cable into the TV and then into a wall outlet. Press the power button on the TV or remote control. The Samsung logo will appear, followed by the setup screen.
  2. Select your language and region. Choose your preferred language from the list using the remote's directional pad and Select button. Then select your country or region. This determines available apps and broadcasting standards.
  3. Connect to Wi-Fi or ethernet. Select your Wi-Fi network from the list and enter the password using the on-screen keyboard. For ethernet, connect the cable to the LAN port on the back of the TV. The TV will test the connection automatically.
  4. Accept terms and create or sign in to Samsung account. Review and accept Samsung's terms of service. Choose whether to create a new Samsung account or sign in to an existing one. You can skip this step, but some features require an account.
  5. Run the channel scan for antenna or cable. If using an antenna or cable connection, connect the coax cable to the ANT/Cable input. Go to Settings > Broadcasting > Auto Program and select Air, Cable, or Both. The scan takes 5-10 minutes.
  6. Configure picture and sound settings. Navigate to Settings > Picture and select Movie mode for the most accurate colors. Adjust backlight for your room's lighting. In Settings > Sound, enable Adaptive Sound if available for automatic audio optimization.
  7. Download and sign in to streaming apps. Press the Home button and navigate to Apps. Download Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, or other services you subscribe to. Sign in to each app with your credentials.
  8. Test all connections and features. Switch between different inputs using the Source button to verify all connected devices work. Test volume, channel changing, and app launching to ensure everything responds correctly.
