How to Connect Apple TV to a New TV
Connecting your Apple TV to a new television requires the right cables and a few configuration steps. This process takes about 10 minutes and works with any TV that has an HDMI port.
- Check your TV's HDMI ports. Locate the HDMI ports on your new TV, typically found on the back or side panel. Note which HDMI port you plan to use (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.) as you'll need to select this input later. Most modern TVs have 2-4 HDMI ports.
- Connect the HDMI cable. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into your Apple TV's HDMI port. Connect the other end to an available HDMI port on your TV. Ensure both connections are secure and fully inserted.
- Connect the power cable. Plug the power cord into your Apple TV and connect the other end to a wall outlet or power strip. The Apple TV will automatically power on when connected, indicated by a white LED on the front panel.
- Switch to the correct TV input. Turn on your TV and press the Input or Source button on your TV remote. Select the HDMI port you connected the Apple TV to (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.). The Apple TV setup screen should appear.
- Select your language and region. Use the Apple TV remote to navigate the setup screen. Select your preferred language and region from the lists provided. This determines your App Store region and content availability.
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network. Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list and enter your password using the on-screen keyboard. For faster setup, hold your iPhone near the Apple TV when prompted to automatically transfer network settings.
- Sign in with your Apple ID. Enter your Apple ID and password to access the App Store, iTunes, and other Apple services. If you have two-factor authentication enabled, enter the verification code when prompted.
- Configure display and audio settings. Apple TV will automatically detect your TV's capabilities and optimize settings. Review the display resolution and HDR settings if you have a 4K TV. Test the audio to ensure it's working through your TV or sound system.
