How to Audit and Manage Streaming Subscriptions

Stop overpaying for content. Audit your active streaming subscriptions and eliminate unnecessary recurring charges with this step-by-step guide.

  1. Review active subscriptions on iOS. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap your name at the top of the menu, then select Subscriptions. This view displays all active and expired services linked to your Apple ID.
  2. Check Google Play subscriptions. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device. Tap your profile icon in the top right corner, then select Payments & subscriptions followed by Subscriptions. Review the list to identify any legacy recurring payments.
  3. Audit third-party billing logs. Log in to your primary credit card or banking portal online. Search your transaction history for recurring keywords like 'Hulu', 'Netflix', 'Disney', or 'Apple'. Compare these charges against your active subscription lists to find services billed independently of platform app stores.
  4. Cancel unwanted subscriptions via OS settings. Return to the Subscriptions menu on your device. Select the service you wish to end and tap Cancel Subscription. Confirm the action to stop automatic renewals at the end of the current billing cycle.
  5. Cancel direct-billed subscriptions. For services not found in app stores, navigate to the provider's official website in a browser. Log in, go to the Account or Billing section, and locate the Cancel Membership or Manage Subscription option. Follow the on-screen prompts until you receive a confirmation email.
  6. Set calendar reminders for free trials. When starting a free trial, immediately create a calendar event for two days before the renewal date. Set an alert to 'Remind me' so you have time to cancel before the first payment is processed. Include the specific URL to the cancellation page in the event notes.
