How to Set Up Casting from iPhone or Android to TV
Learn how to cast media from your iPhone or Android device to your smart TV using AirPlay, Chromecast, and screen mirroring protocols.
- Verify network connectivity. Ensure both your mobile device and your smart TV are connected to the exact same local Wi-Fi network. Casting protocols rely on local network discovery to establish a secure handshake between devices. Devices on separate guest networks or distinct subnets will fail to detect one another.
- Enable casting on the TV. Navigate to the Settings menu on your TV using the physical remote. Locate the Wireless, Network, or External Device settings. Ensure AirPlay (for Apple devices) or Chromecast Built-in (for Android and iOS compatibility) is toggled to the On position.
- Cast using AirPlay. Open the media app you wish to stream from and tap the AirPlay icon, represented by a rectangle with a triangle at the base. Select your smart TV from the list of available devices that appears. If a four-digit code appears on your TV screen, enter that code into the prompt on your iPhone to finalize the link.
- Cast using Google Cast. Open your preferred streaming app and locate the Cast icon, which looks like a rectangle with Wi-Fi waves in the corner. Tap the icon and select your TV from the Cast devices list. The media will initiate playback on the television while your phone remains available for other tasks.
- Mirror the Android screen. Swipe down from the top of your screen to reveal the Quick Settings panel. Tap the Screen Cast or Smart View button. Select your TV from the detected device list to begin mirroring your phone display exactly as it appears in real-time.
- Terminate the connection. To stop casting, tap the Cast or AirPlay icon within the app you are using and select Disconnect or Stop Casting. If mirroring your entire screen, open the Control Center or Quick Settings panel and tap the active casting status to disconnect the session.
