How to Manage Files on Your Tablet

Organize, move, and secure your files on iPadOS and Android tablets with this efficient step-by-step workflow.

  1. Open the native file manager. On iPad, tap the Files app icon. On Android, locate and open the My Files or Files by Google application. These apps serve as the central hub for all local and cloud-based data.
  2. Create a folder hierarchy. Navigate to the desired destination directory. Tap the Ellipsis (...) menu or the New Folder icon to generate a new container, then assign it a descriptive name to categorize your documents.
  3. Transfer files between locations. Long-press the target file to trigger the selection mode. Select Move or Copy from the action menu, navigate to the target directory, and tap Move Here or Paste to finalize the transfer.
  4. Utilize global search. Tap the Search bar at the top of the file manager interface. Input keywords related to the file name or content to instantly locate documents across all connected cloud drives and local storage.
  5. Manage cloud synchronization. Check the status indicators next to your cloud folders. Ensure files are marked for offline access by tapping the Download or Keep on Device option if you require access without an internet connection.
  6. Purge unnecessary data. Identify redundant files by sorting by size or date. Long-press the items and select Delete or Move to Trash, then navigate to the Recently Deleted folder to permanently empty the trash bin.
