How to Verify Your Charger Wattage

Learn how to accurately identify the power output of your USB-C power adapters to ensure optimal charging speeds for your devices.

1. Check the regulatory label. Locate the fine print etched or printed directly onto the surface of the power adapter. Look for the 'Output' line, which lists voltage (V) and amperage (A). Multiply these two numbers (V × A = Watts) to determine the total wattage of the charger.
2. Review System Information on macOS. Connect your charger to your Mac. Hold the Option key, click the Apple menu (), and select System Information. Navigate to the Power category in the left sidebar and look under the AC Charger Information section to see the Wattage field.
3. Use Windows Device Manager. Connect the adapter to your Windows PC. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. Expand the Batteries section, right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, select Properties, and check the Details tab for power delivery information.
4. Use a USB-C power meter. Insert a hardware USB-C power tester between your charging cable and the wall adapter. This device provides a real-time, accurate readout of the exact wattage being delivered to the connected device.
5. Confirm cable specifications. Even if your charger provides high wattage, ensure your cable supports it. Check the USB-C connector housing for small labels indicating 60W or 100W/240W capacity, as older or standard cables may cap the power delivery regardless of the charger's capabilities.
