Set Up Philips Hue Lights and Bridge

Install your Philips Hue system with the bridge, connect lights, and configure your smart lighting setup in minutes.

1. Unpack and position the bridge near your router. Remove the Philips Hue Bridge from its box and locate a central spot in your home, ideally within 30 feet of your Wi-Fi router. Place it on a shelf or flat surface away from metal objects and direct heat sources. The bridge requires a standard power outlet.
2. Connect the bridge to power and wait for startup. Plug the bridge into the power outlet using the included cable. The status light will blink yellow, then turn solid blue when the bridge boots up and connects to your network. Wait 30 seconds for initialization to complete.
3. Download the Philips Hue app and sign in. Open the App Store or Google Play Store on your smartphone and search for Philips Hue. Install the official app by Signify. Launch the app and tap Create Account, then enter your email address and password. You can also sign in with your existing Hue account if you have one.
4. Add the bridge to the app. In the Philips Hue app, tap the plus icon or Set Up in the home screen. Select Add Bridge and hold your phone near the bridge so the app can scan for it. Tap the bridge when it appears in the list, then press the round button on top of the bridge to authorize the connection.
5. Install Hue bulbs in lamps and light fixtures. Turn off the power to the lamp or fixture at the wall switch or circuit breaker. Unscrew the old bulb and screw in a Philips Hue bulb, turning it clockwise until snug. Turn the power back on. The bulb will flash as it initializes.
6. Search for new lights in the app. Open the Philips Hue app and tap the plus icon or Search for Lights. The app will scan the bridge for any new bulbs powered on in the last few minutes. Select each bulb you want to add, assign it to a room, and tap Done.
7. Assign lights to rooms and test control. In the app, navigate to Rooms and tap the plus icon to create rooms matching your home layout, such as Living Room or Bedroom. Drag lights into their corresponding rooms. Return to the home screen and tap any light to adjust brightness and color. Test on-off control and dimming to confirm everything works.
