How to Set Up a New Google Pixel Phone
Setting up a new Google Pixel phone takes about 15 minutes and involves configuring your Google account, transferring data, and personalizing key settings. This process ensures your device is secure and ready for daily use.
- Power on and select your language. Press and hold the power button on the right side of your Pixel until the Google logo appears. Tap your preferred language from the list, then tap the arrow to continue. Connect to Wi-Fi by selecting your network and entering the password.
- Copy data from your old device. Tap 'Copy your data' when prompted. Choose your old device type (Android, iPhone, or no device). For Android devices, use the USB-C to USB-C cable or USB-C to Lightning cable included in the box. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect and authenticate both devices.
- Sign in to your Google account. Enter your Google account email address and password. If you have two-factor authentication enabled, approve the sign-in on another device or enter your backup code. Tap 'I agree' to accept Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
- Set up biometric security. Choose your screen lock method when prompted. Tap 'Fingerprint' for the most convenient option. Place your finger on the under-display fingerprint sensor repeatedly, lifting and repositioning until the setup completes. Create a backup PIN or password as required.
- Configure Google services. Review and select which Google services to enable. Toggle on 'Use location' for maps and weather, 'Backup to Google Drive' for automatic data backup, and 'Use your phone to help improve Google services' if desired. Tap 'Accept' to continue.
- Set up Google Assistant. Tap 'Continue' when the Google Assistant screen appears. Say 'Hey Google' three times when prompted to train voice recognition. Choose whether to allow access from the lock screen and enable 'Hey Google' detection. Review your Voice Match settings and tap 'Continue'.
- Complete final setup preferences. Select your preferred navigation style (3-button or gesture navigation). Choose whether to enable 'Now Playing' to identify music automatically. Set your default apps for browser, messaging, and phone if different options are available. Tap 'Finish' to complete setup.
- Install essential apps and updates. Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon, then 'Manage apps & device'. Install any pending app updates from your previous device. Download essential apps not transferred during setup. Check Settings > System > System update for the latest Android security patches.
