How to Set Up a New iPhone

Setting up a new iPhone takes you through data transfer, Apple ID configuration, and essential privacy settings. This process establishes your device security and personalizes your experience with apps, contacts, and preferences.

  1. Power on and select language. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears. Select your language from the list, then tap your country or region. Connect to Wi-Fi by selecting your network and entering the password.
  2. Configure Face ID or Touch ID. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up Face ID by moving your head in a circle, or place your finger on the Home button repeatedly for Touch ID. This biometric authentication secures your device and enables quick unlocking.
  3. Transfer data from your previous device. Choose Quick Start to transfer from another iPhone, Restore from iCloud Backup, or set up as new iPhone. For Quick Start, hold your old iPhone near the new one and follow the camera prompts. For iCloud, sign in with your Apple ID and select your most recent backup.
  4. Sign in with your Apple ID. Enter your Apple ID email and password, then complete two-factor authentication using your trusted device or phone number. This syncs your purchases, iCloud data, and device settings across all your Apple devices.
  5. Configure Siri and privacy settings. Choose whether to enable Siri by speaking a few phrases for voice recognition training. Review and adjust Location Services, Analytics, and App Store privacy settings. These determine how your data is shared with Apple and third-party apps.
  6. Set up Apple Pay and Screen Time. Add credit or debit cards to Apple Pay by positioning them in the camera frame or entering details manually. Configure Screen Time to monitor app usage and set limits. Both features can be skipped and configured later in Settings.
  7. Complete setup and customize. Tap Get Started to finish initial setup. Download your essential apps from the App Store, arrange your home screen, and adjust display settings in Settings > Display & Brightness. Set up additional features like Emergency SOS and Medical ID in the Health app.
