How to Verify Your Modem Compatibility with Your ISP

Avoid connectivity issues by verifying your hardware. Follow this guide to confirm your modem is certified and supported by your internet service provider.

  1. Locate the modem hardware identifiers. Turn your modem over to find the manufacturer label. Note the manufacturer name, the exact model number, and the Hardware Revision (H/W Rev) version if listed.
  2. Access your ISP support portal. Open your web browser and navigate directly to your ISP’s official equipment support page. Avoid third-party forums or reseller websites to ensure you are referencing the current, authorized device list.
  3. Filter by your service speed tier. Select your current internet service plan from the dropdown menus on the ISP compatibility page. Modems are often tiered; a device that supports 300 Mbps may not be certified for gigabit service even if it is produced by the same manufacturer.
  4. Match your model number against the list. Cross-reference the model number found in Step 1 with the ISP’s generated list. Ensure the exact prefix and suffix of your model match the approved entry perfectly.
  5. Validate the hardware revision. If your ISP list includes a Hardware Revision column, ensure your unit’s H/W version is equal to or higher than the minimum requirement. Using an older revision of an approved model can lead to instability or failed activation.
