How to Set Up a Blink Camera System
Blink cameras provide wireless security monitoring with long battery life and cloud storage. This guide covers complete system setup from initial app installation through camera positioning and alert configuration.
- Download and install the Blink Home Monitor app. Download the Blink Home Monitor app from the App Store or Google Play Store. Open the app and tap 'Create Account' to register with your email address. Verify your email through the confirmation message sent to your inbox.
- Connect the Sync Module to power and internet. Plug the Sync Module into a power outlet using the included USB cable and adapter. Connect the ethernet cable from your router to the Sync Module's ethernet port. Wait for the blue and green lights to appear solid, indicating successful network connection.
- Add the Sync Module to your account. In the Blink app, tap the '+' icon and select 'Sync Module'. Scan the QR code on the back of your Sync Module or manually enter the serial number. Name your system and select your home's Wi-Fi network when prompted.
- Insert batteries and add cameras. Insert two AA lithium batteries into each camera, ensuring correct polarity. In the app, tap '+' then 'Camera' and scan each camera's QR code. Name each camera based on its intended location like 'Front Door' or 'Backyard'.
- Test camera positioning and signal strength. Place each camera in its intended location temporarily. Check the signal strength indicator in the app - aim for three bars minimum. Test the live view and motion detection by walking in front of each camera to ensure proper coverage.
- Mount cameras permanently. Use the included mounting hardware to secure cameras to walls, ceilings, or other surfaces. Position cameras 8-10 feet high for optimal coverage while keeping them out of easy reach. Angle cameras slightly downward to capture faces clearly.
- Configure motion detection and notifications. In the app, tap each camera's settings to adjust motion sensitivity, detection zones, and recording length. Enable push notifications for immediate alerts. Set up clip storage preferences - local USB storage on the Sync Module or Blink cloud storage.
- Set up scheduling and arm the system. Create schedules for when cameras should be active using the Schedule feature. Arm your system by tapping the 'Armed' toggle in the app. Test the complete system by triggering motion detection and verifying you receive notifications.
