How to Replace an Android Phone Battery

A failing Android battery reduces performance and runtime. Replacing it restores your phone's power capacity and extends its usable life by years.

  1. Power down and gather tools. Turn off your phone completely. Gather a heat gun or hair dryer, plastic prying tools, Phillips screwdriver set, tweezers, and adhesive strips. Ensure your workspace is clean and well-lit.
  2. Remove the back cover. Apply gentle heat around the phone's edges for 2-3 minutes to soften adhesive. Insert a plastic prying tool at the charging port and work around the perimeter. Lift the back cover slowly to avoid damaging internal cables.
  3. Disconnect the battery connector. Locate the battery connector cable, typically a small ribbon or plug near the battery. Use plastic tweezers to gently lift the connector straight up from its socket. Do not pull at an angle.
  4. Remove adhesive strips. Find the battery's adhesive pull tabs, usually located under or beside the battery. Pull each tab slowly and steadily at a low angle until the adhesive strip comes free. Apply gentle heat if strips break.
  5. Extract the old battery. Lift the battery from its compartment using the plastic tabs or edges. Avoid puncturing or bending the battery. If resistance occurs, ensure all adhesive is removed before forcing.
  6. Install the new battery. Place the new battery in the compartment, ensuring proper alignment with connector ports. Apply new adhesive strips if included, or use double-sided tape. Press firmly to secure the battery in place.
  7. Reconnect and test. Reconnect the battery connector by pressing straight down until it clicks. Replace the back cover and power on your phone. Verify the battery charges and maintains power properly.
