How to Fix iPad Screen with Yellow Tint
A yellow tint on your iPad screen typically stems from display settings like True Tone or Night Shift being enabled, though hardware issues can also cause this problem. These steps will help you identify and resolve the yellow discoloration.
- Check Night Shift settings. Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift. If the toggle is enabled, turn it off by tapping the switch. Night Shift adds a warm yellow filter to reduce blue light, which can make your screen appear yellow even during daytime use.
- Disable True Tone. Navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness and toggle off True Tone. True Tone adjusts your display's color temperature based on ambient lighting conditions, which can create a yellowish tint in certain lighting environments. This feature is available on iPad Pro models and newer iPads.
- Adjust color temperature manually. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift and move the Color Temperature slider toward the cooler end. Even with Night Shift off, this baseline setting affects your display's overall warmth. Drag the slider left to reduce yellow tinting.
- Reset display settings. Open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings. This returns all display settings to factory defaults without erasing your data. Enter your passcode when prompted and confirm the reset.
- Check for iOS updates. Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. Install any available updates, as display calibration bugs can sometimes cause color temperature issues. Tap Download and Install if an update is available.
- Test with different apps and content. Open various apps including Photos, Safari, and Settings to see if the yellow tint appears consistently across all interfaces. Take a screenshot and view it on another device to determine if the issue is with the display hardware or software rendering.
- Perform a hard restart. For iPads with Face ID, press and quickly release Volume Up, press and quickly release Volume Down, then press and hold the Power button until the Apple logo appears. For iPads with Home buttons, hold both the Home and Power buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.
