How to Fix Bluetooth Not Working on Windows
Bluetooth connectivity problems on Windows typically stem from driver issues, disabled services, or power management settings. These troubleshooting steps resolve most Bluetooth connection failures and pairing issues.
- Enable Bluetooth in Windows Settings. Press Windows + I to open Settings. Navigate to Devices > Bluetooth & other devices (Windows 10) or Bluetooth & devices (Windows 11). Toggle the Bluetooth switch to On if it's disabled. If the toggle is missing, your Bluetooth adapter may need driver installation.
- Restart the Bluetooth Support Service. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter. Locate Bluetooth Support Service in the list. Right-click it and select Restart. If the service shows as Stopped, right-click and select Start. Set the Startup type to Automatic to prevent future issues.
- Update Bluetooth Drivers. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. Expand the Bluetooth section. Right-click your Bluetooth adapter and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for drivers. Windows will download and install the latest driver if available.
- Remove and Reinstall Bluetooth Adapter. In Device Manager, right-click your Bluetooth adapter under the Bluetooth section. Select Uninstall device and confirm by clicking Uninstall. Restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the Bluetooth adapter with fresh drivers on startup.
- Disable Power Management for Bluetooth. In Device Manager, right-click your Bluetooth adapter and select Properties. Click the Power Management tab. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Click OK to save the changes. This prevents Windows from automatically disabling Bluetooth to conserve battery.
- Run the Bluetooth Troubleshooter. Press Windows + I to open Settings. Navigate to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters (Windows 10) or System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters (Windows 11). Click Bluetooth and select Run the troubleshooter. Follow the on-screen prompts to automatically detect and fix common Bluetooth problems.
- Reset Bluetooth Settings via Command Prompt. Press Windows + X and select Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin). Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter. Then type netsh int ip reset and press Enter. Restart your computer to apply the network stack reset, which often resolves Bluetooth communication issues.
