How to Use YouTube Studio Analytics to Track Your Channel Performance

Master YouTube Studio Analytics to track views, revenue, audience demographics, and channel performance. Complete guide with step-by-step instructions.

  1. Access YouTube Studio Analytics. Open YouTube Studio at studio.youtube.com and sign in to your channel account. Click Analytics in the left sidebar menu. The Overview tab displays your channel's key metrics for the last 28 days by default.
  2. Navigate the Overview dashboard. Review the four main metric cards: Views, Watch time, Subscribers, and Estimated revenue (if monetized). Click the date selector in the top right to change the time period from 28 days to 7 days, 90 days, or custom ranges. Use the Compare periods toggle to analyze performance against previous timeframes.
  3. Analyze the Reach tab. Click the Reach tab to view impressions, click-through rate, and traffic sources. Examine which thumbnails and titles generate the highest click-through rates. Review the traffic source breakdown to understand how viewers discover your content through YouTube search, suggested videos, or external sources.
  4. Examine Engagement metrics. Select the Engagement tab to see watch time, average view duration, and top videos. Study the audience retention graph to identify where viewers drop off in your videos. Click on individual videos to see detailed retention curves and engagement patterns.
  5. Study Audience demographics. Open the Audience tab to view subscriber demographics, including age, gender, geography, and subscription status. Check when your audience is on YouTube to optimize upload timing. Review the subscription source data to see which videos convert viewers into subscribers most effectively.
  6. Monitor Revenue analytics. If your channel is monetized, click the Revenue tab to track estimated earnings, RPM (revenue per mille), and CPM (cost per mille). Compare revenue across different video types and lengths. Analyze which content generates the highest revenue per view.
  7. Create custom reports. Use the Advanced mode toggle in any tab to access detailed filtering options. Filter by video type, publish date, or content category. Export data as CSV files for external analysis by clicking the download icon in the top right corner.
