How to Use TikTok Voice Effects

Learn how to add and customize voice effects to your TikTok videos. Step-by-step guide to transforming your voice with built-in filters.

  1. Record your TikTok video. Open TikTok and tap the plus icon to create a new video. Record your video content first, either by holding the record button or using hands-free mode. You can add voice effects to existing videos in your camera roll by selecting them instead.
  2. Access the voiceover feature. After recording, tap the checkmark to proceed to editing. On the right side of the screen, tap the 'Voiceover' icon that looks like a microphone. This opens the voiceover recording interface where you can add narration to your video.
  3. Position your recording timeline. Drag the red playhead to the exact moment where you want your voiceover to begin. The timeline shows your video frames, allowing precise placement of your voice recording. Tap and hold the record button when you're ready to start speaking.
  4. Record your voiceover. Hold the red record button and speak clearly into your phone's microphone. The recording will automatically sync with your video timeline. Release the button when finished, or tap it again to stop recording mid-sentence.
  5. Select voice effects. After recording your voiceover, tap the voice effects icon at the bottom of the screen. Scroll through available effects including Chipmunk, Baritone, Vibrato, Echo, Robot, and Helium. Tap any effect to preview how it changes your recorded voice.
  6. Adjust effect intensity. Most voice effects include a slider to control intensity. Drag the slider left for subtle changes or right for more dramatic transformation. The preview updates in real-time as you adjust, letting you find the perfect balance for your content.
  7. Save and apply changes. Once satisfied with your voice effect, tap 'Save' or the checkmark icon. Your modified voiceover now plays with the effect applied. You can return to voice effects anytime before publishing to make additional adjustments or try different filters.
