How to Use TikTok Duets and Stitches

Master TikTok's duet and stitch features to create engaging collaborative content. Step-by-step guide for recording, editing, and sharing.

  1. Find a video to duet or stitch. Open the video you want to respond to. Tap the Share arrow on the right side of the screen. Look for the Duet or Stitch option in the sharing menu.
  2. Choose duet for split-screen responses. Tap Duet to create a split-screen video with the original on the left and your recording space on the right. The original video will play while you record your response. Tap the red record button to start filming.
  3. Select stitch to clip and respond. Tap Stitch to choose a segment from the original video. Drag the slider to select up to 5 seconds of footage from the original. Tap Next when you've chosen your clip. The selected portion will play first, followed by your response.
  4. Record your response. Position yourself in the frame and tap the record button. For duets, you can react in real-time to the original video. For stitches, record your commentary or response after the clip plays. Tap the checkmark when finished.
  5. Add effects and filters. Tap Effects on the bottom toolbar to add visual filters or AR effects. Tap Filters to adjust color and lighting. These tools work the same way as regular TikTok videos. Make adjustments before or after recording.
  6. Edit audio settings. Tap the Volume button to adjust the original video's audio level versus your recorded audio. Slide the bars to balance both tracks. You can also tap Sounds to add background music or sound effects.
  7. Write your caption and post. Add a caption describing your response or reaction. Include relevant hashtags and tag the original creator using @username. Tap Post to share your duet or stitch to your profile and the For You page.
