How to Use Instagram Analytics to Grow Your Account

Master Instagram analytics to accelerate growth. Track engagement, optimize posting times, and analyze content performance with built-in tools.

  1. Switch to a professional account. Open Instagram and tap your profile picture in the bottom right. Tap the three lines in the top right corner, then tap Settings and Privacy. Select Account Type and Tools, then Switch to Professional Account. Choose Creator or Business based on your needs.
  2. Access your analytics dashboard. From your profile, tap the three lines in the top right corner. Select Insights from the menu. This opens your main analytics dashboard showing overview metrics for the past 30 days including accounts reached, content interactions, and total followers.
  3. Analyze your top-performing content. In Insights, tap Content You Shared to see individual post performance. Sort by Reach or Engagement to identify your best content. Note the post types, topics, and visual styles that generate the most interaction. Tap any post to see detailed metrics including saves, shares, and profile visits.
  4. Study your audience demographics. In the Insights dashboard, tap Audience to view detailed follower data. Review the age ranges, gender split, top locations, and most active times. Use this information to tailor your content topics and posting schedule to match when your audience is most likely to engage.
  5. Track reach and impressions trends. Navigate to the Content section and review your reach and impressions over time. Look for patterns in which days and content types perform best. Compare your reach from home feed, hashtags, explore page, and other sources to understand how people discover your content.
  6. Monitor story analytics. For individual stories, swipe up while viewing your own story to see insights. Track completion rates, exits, replies, and profile visits. For story highlights, tap the highlight and then tap More to see total views and unique accounts reached.
  7. Set growth benchmarks and track progress. Create a simple tracking system using your phone's notes app or a spreadsheet. Record weekly metrics including follower count, average post engagement rate, and reach. Calculate your engagement rate by dividing total interactions by follower count, then multiply by 100 for a percentage.
