How to Set Up Instagram for Business
Convert your personal Instagram to a business account and unlock professional features like analytics, ads, and contact buttons in minutes.
- Open Instagram and access your profile. Launch the Instagram app and tap your profile picture in the bottom right corner. This takes you to your profile page where you can access account settings.
- Navigate to account settings. Tap the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the top right corner of your profile. Select 'Settings' from the bottom of the menu that appears.
- Switch to professional account. Scroll down and tap 'Account.' Select 'Switch to professional account' from the list of options. Instagram will walk you through the conversion process.
- Choose your business category. Select the category that best describes your business from Instagram's list. This helps Instagram show your account to relevant users and enables category-specific features. Choose carefully as this affects how your business appears in search results.
- Add business contact information. Enter your business email address, phone number, and physical address if applicable. This information creates contact buttons on your profile that customers can use to reach you directly.
- Connect your Facebook page. Link your Instagram business account to your Facebook business page if you have one. This connection enables cross-platform advertising and provides additional insights about your audience.
- Complete your business profile. Add a clear profile picture (your logo works well), write a compelling bio that explains what your business does, and include a link to your website. Use the 'Edit Profile' button to access these options.
- Enable Instagram Shopping. Go to Settings > Business > Shopping and connect your product catalog. This allows customers to purchase directly from your posts and stories. You need a Facebook catalog or compatible e-commerce platform to enable this feature.
