How to Use Facebook Reels

Learn to create, edit, and share Facebook Reels with music, effects, and captions. Complete guide for making engaging short-form videos on Facebook.

1. Open the Facebook app and tap Create. Launch Facebook on your mobile device. Tap the plus (+) icon at the top of your News Feed or go to your profile and tap Create Story. Select Reel from the options at the bottom of the screen.
2. Set your video length and recording speed. Tap the timer icon on the left side of the screen to choose between 15, 30, or 60 seconds. Use the speed controls to record in slow motion (0.3x, 0.5x) or fast motion (2x, 3x, 4x) by tapping the speedometer icon.
3. Add music to your Reel. Tap the music note icon to browse Facebook's music library. Search for specific songs or browse trending audio clips. Select your track and drag the slider to choose which part of the song plays in your Reel.
4. Apply effects and filters. Tap the effects icon (sparkle) to add AR filters, beauty effects, or creative overlays. Swipe through the available options and tap to apply. Some effects respond to facial movements or hand gestures during recording.
5. Record your video content. Hold the record button to capture your video, or tap once to start hands-free recording. You can record multiple clips by releasing and pressing the button again. Tap the flip camera icon to switch between front and rear cameras.
6. Edit and add captions. After recording, tap Next to access editing tools. Add text overlays by tapping the Aa icon, adjust timing with the trim tool, and include captions for accessibility. Use the sticker icon to add location tags, mentions, or hashtags.
7. Choose your audience and share. Write a compelling caption describing your Reel. Select your audience (Public, Friends, or Custom) using the privacy dropdown. Add relevant hashtags to increase discoverability, then tap Share to publish your Reel.
