How to Use Facebook Dating Features
Complete guide to Facebook Dating features including setup, profile creation, matches, conversations, and privacy settings for finding meaningful connections.
- Access Facebook Dating. Open the Facebook app and tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner. Select 'Dating' from the menu options. If you don't see Dating, update your Facebook app or check if the feature is available in your region.
- Set up your Dating profile. Tap 'Get Started' and follow the prompts to create your Dating profile. Add photos from your Facebook account or upload new ones. Write a brief bio that highlights your interests and what you're looking for. Your Dating profile is separate from your main Facebook profile.
- Configure your preferences. Set your age range, distance radius, and gender preferences by tapping the gear icon in your Dating profile. Adjust these settings to match your dating criteria. You can also specify if you want to include friends of friends in your potential matches.
- Browse and like profiles. Swipe through suggested profiles by tapping the heart icon to like someone or the X to pass. You can also tap on a person's profile to view more photos and details. Send a message along with your like by commenting on a specific photo or prompt response.
- Use Secret Crush feature. Tap the Secret Crush card in your Dating home screen. Add up to nine Facebook friends or Instagram followers you're interested in. They'll only be notified if they add you to their Secret Crush list too, creating a match.
- Connect through events and groups. Tap 'Events in Common' or 'Groups in Common' to find people who attended the same events or are in similar Facebook groups. This feature helps you connect with people who share your interests and activities.
- Manage conversations and matches. View your matches in the 'Conversations' section. Start conversations by responding to their profile prompts or photos. All Dating messages are separate from Facebook Messenger and remain within the Dating feature until both people agree to move to Messenger.
- Control privacy and safety settings. Access privacy settings through the gear icon in your Dating profile. You can block specific people, report inappropriate behavior, and control who can see your Dating profile. Your Dating activity never appears on your main Facebook timeline or feed.
