How to Reset a Forgotten Apple ID Password
When you forget your Apple ID password, you lose access to the App Store, iCloud, and other Apple services. Apple provides multiple recovery methods to regain access to your account securely.
- Open the Apple ID account page. Navigate to appleid.apple.com in your web browser. Click 'Sign In' at the top right corner of the page. On the sign-in screen, click 'Forgot Apple ID or password?' below the password field.
- Enter your Apple ID email address. Type your Apple ID email address in the provided field. If you don't remember your Apple ID email, click 'Forgot your Apple ID?' to search using your first name, last name, and current or previous email addresses. Click 'Continue' once you've entered your Apple ID.
- Choose your password reset method. Select how you want to reset your password. Choose 'Get an email' to receive reset instructions at your recovery email address, or 'Answer security questions' to verify your identity using the questions you set up. Click 'Continue' after making your selection.
- Complete the verification process. For email verification, check your recovery email inbox and click the reset link. For security questions, answer each question exactly as you originally entered the information. If using two-factor authentication, enter the verification code sent to your trusted device or phone number.
- Create your new password. Enter a new password that meets Apple's requirements: at least 8 characters with uppercase and lowercase letters, plus at least one number. Confirm the password by typing it again in the second field. Avoid using passwords you've used before with this Apple ID.
- Sign in with your new password. Click 'Reset Password' to save your changes. You'll be automatically signed out of all Apple services on all devices. Sign back in using your Apple ID and new password on each device where you use Apple services.
