How to Merge Duplicate iCloud Accounts
Apple does not provide a direct way to merge two iCloud accounts, but you can manually transfer data between accounts and consolidate your digital life. This process requires careful planning to avoid data loss.
- Document both accounts completely. Create a detailed list of what data exists in each iCloud account. Check Photos, Contacts, Calendars, Notes, iCloud Drive files, App Store purchases, and subscriptions. Take screenshots of purchase history and important settings from both accounts.
- Choose your primary account. Decide which Apple ID will become your main account. Consider factors like purchase history, email address preference, and which account has more critical data. The primary account should be the one you want to keep long-term.
- Export data from the secondary account. Sign into your secondary iCloud account on a computer and download all important data. Export contacts as vCard files, download photos and videos, save notes as text files, and back up any iCloud Drive documents. Use privacy.apple.com to request a complete data export if needed.
- Transfer purchased content. Contact Apple Support to request transfer of App Store, iTunes, or other purchases from the secondary account to your primary account. Apple can sometimes consolidate purchase histories, though this is not guaranteed for all content types.
- Import data to your primary account. Sign into your primary iCloud account and import the exported data. Add contacts through the Contacts app, upload photos to iCloud Photos, recreate notes, and move documents to iCloud Drive. Update any apps or services using the secondary email address.
- Update device sign-ins. Sign out of the secondary iCloud account on all devices and sign in with your primary account. Go to Settings > [Your Name] on iOS or System Settings > Apple ID on Mac, sign out, then sign back in with your primary Apple ID.
- Close the secondary account. Once all data is successfully transferred and you have confirmed everything works with your primary account, delete the secondary Apple ID at privacy.apple.com. This permanently removes the account and prevents future confusion.
