How to Fix iPhone Update Stuck on Verifying

iPhone updates can freeze during the verification process, leaving your device in limbo. This happens when iOS cannot confirm the update file's authenticity or encounters network issues during download validation.

1. Force restart your iPhone. Press and quickly release Volume Up, press and quickly release Volume Down, then press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears. For iPhone 8 and later, this takes about 10 seconds. For iPhone 7 series, hold Volume Down and Side button simultaneously.
2. Check your internet connection. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and confirm you're connected to a stable network. Test by opening Safari and loading a webpage. If connection is weak, move closer to your router or switch to a different Wi-Fi network with stronger signal.
3. Delete and re-download the update. Navigate to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, find the iOS update file, tap it, then select Delete Update. Return to Settings > General > Software Update and download the update again. This ensures you have an uncorrupted file.
4. Free up storage space. Check Settings > General > iPhone Storage and ensure you have at least 5GB of available space. Delete unused apps, photos, or videos if needed. iOS requires extra space beyond the update file size for installation and verification processes.
5. Reset network settings. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Enter your passcode when prompted. This removes all saved Wi-Fi passwords and cellular settings, then reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and retry the update.
6. Update using iTunes or Finder. Connect your iPhone to a computer with the latest iTunes (PC/older Mac) or use Finder (Mac with macOS Catalina or later). Select your device, click Check for Update, then Update. The computer downloads and verifies the update independently.
