How to Fix Safari Not Loading Pages

Safari not loading pages is typically caused by corrupted cache data, problematic extensions, or network configuration issues. These troubleshooting steps resolve most loading problems within minutes.

  1. Force quit and restart Safari. Press Command + Option + Esc to open Force Quit Applications. Select Safari and click Force Quit. Wait 10 seconds, then relaunch Safari from your Applications folder or Dock.
  2. Clear Safari's cache and website data. Open Safari and press Command + Comma to access Preferences. Click the Privacy tab, then click Manage Website Data. Click Remove All, then click Remove Now to confirm. Restart Safari to test page loading.
  3. Disable Safari extensions. In Safari Preferences, click the Extensions tab. Uncheck all installed extensions to disable them. Close Preferences and try loading pages again. If pages load successfully, re-enable extensions one by one to identify the problematic extension.
  4. Reset Safari to default settings. Go to Safari menu > Preferences > Privacy and click Manage Website Data > Remove All. Switch to the Advanced tab and check Show Develop menu. From the new Develop menu, select Empty Caches. Finally, go to Safari menu > Clear History and choose All History.
  5. Check DNS settings and network connectivity. Open System Preferences > Network. Select your active connection and click Advanced > DNS. Note your current DNS servers, then click the + button and add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Click OK, then Apply to test connectivity.
  6. Update Safari and macOS. Click Apple menu > About This Mac > Software Update. Install any available macOS updates, which include Safari updates. Restart your Mac after installation completes and test page loading again.
  7. Reset network settings if pages still won't load. Open System Preferences > Network. Select your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection and click the minus button to remove it. Click Apply, then click the plus button to re-add the connection. Reconfigure your network password and settings.
