How to Fix Gmail Not Receiving Emails
Gmail delivery problems prevent important emails from reaching your inbox. These issues typically stem from full storage, incorrect filters, or sync problems that can be resolved through systematic troubleshooting.
- Check your Gmail storage quota. Open Gmail and click the gear icon in the top right. Select 'See all settings' then navigate to the 'General' tab. Scroll down to see your storage usage. If you're near or at the 15GB limit, delete large emails or upgrade your Google One storage plan.
- Verify your spam and trash folders. Click 'Spam' in the left sidebar and scan for legitimate emails. If found, select them and click 'Not spam'. Next, check your 'Trash' folder for accidentally deleted messages. Empty spam and trash folders to free up storage space.
- Review and adjust email filters. Go to Settings > 'Filters and Blocked Addresses'. Review existing filters that might be automatically deleting, archiving, or forwarding incoming emails. Delete problematic filters by clicking the 'delete' link next to each filter rule.
- Check blocked senders list. In Settings, click 'Filters and Blocked Addresses' then scroll to the 'Blocked addresses' section. Remove any email addresses or domains you want to receive emails from by clicking 'Unblock' next to each entry.
- Disable email forwarding temporarily. Navigate to Settings > 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP'. If forwarding is enabled, click 'Disable forwarding' to ensure emails aren't being redirected elsewhere. Save changes and test email delivery for 24 hours.
- Clear browser cache and cookies. Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Delete (Mac) to open browser cleanup options. Select 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files'. Choose 'All time' for the time range and click 'Clear data'. Restart your browser and log back into Gmail.
- Test with Gmail mobile app sync. Open the Gmail mobile app and pull down on your inbox to force a manual sync. Check if missing emails appear. If the mobile app shows emails that the web version doesn't, clear your browser cache again or try accessing Gmail from an incognito window.
