Clear Your Browser Cache

Remove cached data from your browser to free space and fix loading issues. Works on Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.

  1. Open your browser settings. Launch your browser. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Command+Shift+Delete (Mac) to open the cache-clearing dialog directly. If this doesn't work, access it manually through the menu.
  2. Access the clear browsing data menu if needed. If the keyboard shortcut didn't open the dialog, go to Settings or Preferences from the menu. In Chrome, click the three-dot menu, then Settings > Privacy and security > Delete browsing data. In Safari, go to Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data, then click Remove All. In Firefox, click the hamburger menu, then Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data.
  3. Choose the time range. A dialog box will appear with a dropdown menu showing time options: Last hour, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 4 weeks, or All time. Select All time to remove all cached data, or choose a specific range to keep recent browsing data intact.
  4. Confirm what data types to clear. Ensure Cached images and files is checked. You can also select Cookies and site data, Browsing history, or Download history depending on what you want to remove. For most situations, cached images and files alone solves performance issues.
  5. Clear the cache. Click the Clear data button (Chrome, Edge), Clear Now button (Firefox), or Remove Now button (Safari). The browser will delete the selected cached files immediately.
  6. Confirm the cache has been cleared. Close the settings dialog and reload a website you visit frequently. The page should load normally. If a page was displaying incorrectly before, it should now show the current version.
  7. Enable automatic cache clearing on exit. To prevent cache buildup going forward, configure automatic clearing. In Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear cookies and site data when you quit Chrome and toggle it on. In Firefox, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > History and set Firefox will to Use custom settings for history, then check Clear history when Firefox closes.
