How to Fix Chrome Not Loading Pages

Chrome pages failing to load can stem from corrupted cache files, problematic extensions, or network connectivity issues. These systematic troubleshooting steps resolve the most common causes of Chrome loading failures.

  1. Clear browsing data and cache. Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Cmd+Shift+Delete on Mac) to open Clear browsing data. Select 'All time' from the time range dropdown. Check 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files'. Click 'Clear data' to remove corrupted cache files that prevent page loading.
  2. Disable all extensions. Type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar and press Enter. Toggle off all extension switches to disable them completely. Restart Chrome and test page loading. Extensions with network access can interfere with page requests and cause loading failures.
  3. Reset Chrome network settings. Open Chrome settings by typing chrome://settings/ in the address bar. Click 'Advanced' at the bottom, then select 'Reset and clean up'. Click 'Restore settings to their original defaults' and confirm with 'Reset settings'. This clears DNS cache and proxy configurations.
  4. Flush DNS and reset network adapter. Open Command Prompt as administrator (Windows) or Terminal (Mac). Type 'ipconfig /flushdns' on Windows or 'sudo dscacheutil -flushcache' on Mac. Press Enter and restart your computer. This clears corrupted DNS entries that prevent Chrome from resolving website addresses.
  5. Check antivirus and firewall settings. Temporarily disable your antivirus real-time protection and Windows Firewall (or equivalent). Test Chrome page loading with security software disabled. Some antivirus programs block Chrome's network access or scan web traffic aggressively, causing timeouts.
  6. Create a new Chrome user profile. Type chrome://settings/people in the address bar. Click 'Add person' and create a new profile with any name. Sign into the new profile and test page loading. Corrupted user profiles can cause persistent loading issues even after other fixes.
  7. Reinstall Chrome completely. Uninstall Chrome through Windows Settings > Apps or Applications folder on Mac. Download the latest Chrome installer from google.com/chrome. Install Chrome and test page loading. This replaces corrupted program files that other troubleshooting steps cannot fix.
