How to Use Notion AI for Notes
Notion AI transforms your note-taking workflow by automatically generating summaries, expanding ideas, and organizing content intelligently. This powerful feature integrates directly into your Notion workspace to enhance productivity and streamline information processing.
- Enable Notion AI in your workspace. Open any Notion page and type the space bar followed by 'AI'. Select 'Ask AI to write' from the dropdown menu. If you don't see AI options, upgrade your Notion plan to include AI features through Settings > Plans in your workspace.
- Generate AI summaries of existing notes. Select the text you want to summarize in your note. Click the 'Ask AI' button that appears or press Cmd+J (Mac) or Ctrl+J (Windows). Choose 'Summarize' from the AI menu to create a concise overview of your selected content.
- Create outlines and expand bullet points. Type your main topic or a few bullet points in your note. Select the content and invoke Notion AI. Choose 'Improve writing' then 'Create outline' to generate a structured framework, or select 'Continue writing' to expand existing points with relevant details.
- Use AI for brainstorming and idea generation. Place your cursor where you want new content and press the space bar. Type your prompt such as 'brainstorm ideas for project management' or 'generate meeting agenda items'. Press Enter to let AI create relevant suggestions you can incorporate into your notes.
- Format and improve existing content. Highlight any written content in your notes. Use Notion AI's 'Fix spelling and grammar' option to clean up text, or select 'Change tone' to adjust formality level. Choose 'Translate' to convert notes between languages while maintaining context and formatting.
- Create action items from meeting notes. After pasting or typing meeting notes, select the content and ask AI to 'Extract action items' or 'Create to-do list'. AI will identify tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities from your notes and format them as actionable items you can track.
- Set up AI-powered templates for recurring notes. Create a new page template by going to Templates in your sidebar. Build your standard note structure, then use AI prompts like 'Create weekly review template' or 'Generate project status template' to establish consistent formats for regular note-taking.
