How to Use Gemini Live Voice Conversations
Gemini Live enables natural voice conversations with Google's AI assistant through your mobile device. This feature transforms text-based interactions into fluid, spoken dialogue that feels like talking to a knowledgeable companion.
- Open the Gemini app on your mobile device. Launch the Google Gemini app from your home screen or app drawer. Ensure you're signed in to your Google account and have an active internet connection. The app requires iOS 16+ or Android 10+ to function properly.
- Locate the Live button in the interface. Look for the waveform icon or 'Live' button at the bottom of the Gemini chat interface. This button appears as animated sound waves and may be located next to the text input field. If you don't see it, update your Gemini app to the latest version.
- Tap the Live button to start voice mode. Tap the Live button once to activate voice conversation mode. Gemini will greet you verbally and indicate it's ready to listen. You'll see a visual indicator showing that the microphone is active and ready to receive your voice input.
- Begin speaking naturally to Gemini. Start talking as you would in a normal conversation. Gemini Live responds to natural speech patterns, so speak at your normal pace without special commands. You can ask questions, request explanations, or have discussions on various topics.
- Listen and respond to Gemini's voice replies. Gemini will respond verbally using natural speech synthesis. Wait for the response to complete before speaking again, though you can interrupt if needed. The conversation flows like speaking with another person, including natural pauses and inflections.
- Use voice commands to control the conversation. Say 'hold on' to pause Gemini mid-response, 'continue' to resume, or 'stop' to end the current response. You can also say 'repeat that' to hear the last response again or ask Gemini to speak slower or faster as needed.
- End the voice session when finished. Tap the Live button again to exit voice mode and return to text chat, or simply close the Gemini app. Your conversation history remains available in the standard chat interface for reference later.
