How to Use Claude on Windows

Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant that runs entirely through web browsers and applications on Windows. You can access Claude through the official website, integrate it into desktop applications, or use it via API calls from Windows development environments.

1. Access Claude through your web browser. Open any modern web browser on Windows and navigate to claude.ai. Click 'Sign Up' or 'Log In' if you already have an account. Create an account using your email address and verify it through the confirmation email sent to your inbox.
2. Start a conversation with Claude. Click the text input box at the bottom of the Claude interface. Type your question, request, or prompt and press Enter or click the send button. Claude will process your input and provide a response in the conversation thread above.
3. Upload files for analysis. Click the paperclip icon next to the text input box to attach files. Select documents, images, or text files from your Windows file explorer. Claude can analyze PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, images, and various text formats up to the file size limit.
4. Use Claude in desktop applications. Install applications that integrate Claude, such as Cursor for coding or other Claude-enabled desktop tools from the Microsoft Store or developer websites. Launch these applications and authenticate with your Claude account when prompted. Access Claude's capabilities directly within these specialized environments.
5. Set up API access for development. Visit console.anthropic.com and create an API account. Generate API keys from the dashboard and install the Anthropic Python library using 'pip install anthropic' in Command Prompt or PowerShell. Create Python scripts that call Claude's API using your authentication keys.
6. Manage conversation history. Access previous conversations through the sidebar on the Claude web interface. Click on any past conversation to resume where you left off. Use the search function to find specific topics or responses from your conversation history.
7. Optimize Claude's responses. Provide clear, specific prompts with relevant context. Break complex requests into smaller parts for better results. Use follow-up questions to refine Claude's responses and get exactly the information or assistance you need.
