How to Upload an Image to Gemini

Google Gemini can analyze, describe, and answer questions about images you upload. The AI can identify objects, read text, explain diagrams, and provide detailed insights about visual content.

  1. Open Gemini in your browser. Navigate to gemini.google.com and sign in with your Google account. The interface loads with a text input field and attachment options at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Click the attachment icon. Look for the paperclip or camera icon next to the text input field. Click this icon to open the file selection menu. You'll see options for uploading from your device or taking a photo.
  3. Select your image file. Choose 'Upload from device' and browse to your image file. Gemini supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC formats up to 20MB. Select your image and click 'Open' to begin the upload process.
  4. Wait for the upload to complete. A progress indicator shows the upload status. Once complete, a thumbnail of your image appears in the chat interface below the text input field. The image is now ready for analysis.
  5. Type your question about the image. Enter a specific question or request in the text field. Ask Gemini to describe what it sees, identify objects, read text, explain concepts, or analyze specific elements in the image.
  6. Submit your request. Press Enter or click the send button to submit your image and question. Gemini processes the image and provides a detailed response based on what it observes in the visual content.
