How to Export Claude Conversations

Claude conversations can be exported as downloadable files for backup, reference, or sharing purposes. The export feature generates a comprehensive file containing your entire chat history with formatting preserved.

  1. Access your Claude account settings. Navigate to claude.ai and sign in to your account. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the interface. Select 'Settings' from the dropdown menu to open your account preferences.
  2. Locate the data export section. Scroll down to find the 'Privacy & Data' section within your settings. Click on 'Export Data' or 'Download Your Data' depending on your account type. This section manages all data export functions for your Claude account.
  3. Select conversation export options. Choose 'Conversations' from the available export categories. Select your preferred date range using the calendar picker, or choose 'All time' to export your complete chat history. Verify that conversations are checked in the export list.
  4. Choose your file format. Select your preferred export format from the dropdown menu. JSON format preserves conversation structure and metadata. Plain text format creates readable files for easy viewing. CSV format works well for data analysis or spreadsheet import.
  5. Initiate the export process. Click 'Request Export' to begin processing your data. Claude will prepare your conversation files, which may take several minutes for large chat histories. You'll receive an email notification when the export is ready for download.
  6. Download your conversation files. Check your email for the download notification from Claude. Click the download link in the email, or return to the export section in your settings. Click 'Download' next to your completed export request to save the file to your device.
