How to Transfer WhatsApp Chats to a New iPhone

Learn the official method to migrate your WhatsApp chat history, media, and settings to a new iPhone using iCloud backup.

  1. Perform a manual backup on your old iPhone. Open WhatsApp on your current device. Navigate to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup and tap Back Up Now to ensure your latest data is uploaded to iCloud.
  2. Prepare your new iPhone. Ensure your new iPhone is set up and signed in with the same Apple ID used on your previous device. Download WhatsApp from the App Store.
  3. Verify your phone number. Launch WhatsApp on your new device. Enter the exact phone number previously associated with your account and confirm it via the SMS verification code received on your phone.
  4. Restore your chat history. Once verified, WhatsApp will detect your iCloud backup. Tap Restore Chat History when prompted to begin the migration process.
  5. Complete the initialization. After the chat restoration finishes, tap Next to finalize the setup. Your media files will continue to download in the background once the initial interface appears.
