How to Use Grammarly AI Rewrite

Grammarly's AI rewrite feature transforms your writing by suggesting complete sentence and paragraph rewrites for better clarity, tone, and engagement. This tool goes beyond grammar correction to restructure your content while preserving your original meaning.

1. Open Grammarly and paste your text. Navigate to app.grammarly.com or open the Grammarly browser extension. Create a new document or paste your existing text into the editor. The AI rewrite feature works with any text length from single sentences to full paragraphs.
2. Select the text you want to rewrite. Click and drag to highlight the specific text you want to improve. You can select individual sentences, multiple sentences, or entire paragraphs. Grammarly will analyze the selected content and identify rewrite opportunities.
3. Click the rewrite suggestion. Look for the purple rewrite card that appears next to your selected text. Click on it to see AI-generated alternatives. Grammarly typically provides 2-3 different rewrite options, each with a different focus like clarity, conciseness, or engagement.
4. Choose your preferred rewrite option. Review each suggested rewrite and click the one that best matches your intended tone and message. The options are labeled with their focus area such as 'Clarity,' 'Conciseness,' or 'Engagement.' Click 'Apply' to replace your original text with the selected rewrite.
5. Set your writing goals for better suggestions. Click the 'Goals' button in the right sidebar to specify your audience, formality level, domain, and intent. Choose from options like 'General,' 'Academic,' 'Business,' or 'Creative.' These settings help the AI generate more targeted rewrite suggestions.
6. Use tone adjustments for specific rewrites. Access the tone detector in the right panel to see if your text reads as intended. If Grammarly detects an unintended tone, click the tone adjustment suggestion to see rewrites that better match your desired voice. Options include making text sound more confident, polite, or optimistic.
7. Review and finalize your rewritten content. Read through your entire document after applying rewrites to ensure flow and consistency. Make any manual adjustments needed to maintain your personal writing style. Use the undo button (Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z) to revert any changes that don't work.
