How to Use Gemini to Generate Images

Google Gemini can generate high-quality images from text descriptions using its built-in Imagen model. This feature transforms written prompts into detailed artwork, illustrations, or photorealistic images in seconds.

  1. Access Gemini with image generation capability. Open gemini.google.com and sign in with your Google account. Ensure you're using the standard Gemini interface, not Gemini Advanced, as image generation is available in the free tier. Look for the text input box at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Write a detailed image prompt. Type your image description in the chat box. Be specific about style, colors, composition, and subject matter. For example: 'A serene mountain lake at sunset with purple sky reflections, photorealistic style' or 'Minimalist line drawing of a coffee cup on a wooden table, black ink on white background.'
  3. Submit your prompt and wait for generation. Press Enter or click the send arrow to submit your prompt. Gemini will process your request and generate multiple image variations, typically 2-4 options. This process usually takes 10-30 seconds depending on complexity and server load.
  4. Review and select your preferred image. Examine the generated images that appear in the chat. Each variation interprets your prompt differently. Click on any image to view it in full size. Consider which version best matches your intended vision and requirements.
  5. Download or share your generated image. Right-click on your chosen image and select 'Save image as' to download it to your device. You can also click the download icon if it appears on hover. Images are generated at web resolution, typically suitable for digital use and social media.
  6. Refine with follow-up prompts if needed. Request modifications by typing follow-up instructions like 'Make the sky more dramatic' or 'Change the color scheme to blue and gold.' Gemini will generate new variations based on your refinements while maintaining the core elements of your original request.
