How to Use Adobe Firefly Inside Photoshop
Adobe Firefly integrates directly into Photoshop 2024, allowing you to generate images and fill selections using AI-powered tools. This integration streamlines your workflow by eliminating the need to switch between applications.
- Update to Photoshop 2024. Open Creative Cloud Desktop and ensure Photoshop is updated to version 25.0 or later. Click the three dots next to Photoshop and select Update if available. Restart Photoshop after the update completes.
- Access Generative Fill. Make a selection using any selection tool (Lasso, Marquee, or Quick Selection). Go to Edit > Generative Fill or press Shift+G. The Generative Fill panel opens on the right side of your workspace.
- Enter your text prompt. Type a descriptive prompt in the text field describing what you want to generate or add to the selection. Be specific about objects, colors, lighting, and style. Click Generate to create three variations.
- Review and select variations. Photoshop displays three generated options in the Properties panel. Click on each thumbnail to preview it in your document. Select the variation that best fits your project by clicking on it.
- Use Generative Expand. Select the Crop Tool and drag beyond your image boundaries to define the expanded canvas area. Click Generative Expand in the contextual toolbar. Enter a prompt describing the extended background or leave blank for automatic extension.
- Access Text to Image. Go to Window > Generative Fill to open the panel permanently. Click the Text to Image tab at the top. Enter your prompt and select aspect ratio and style preferences. Click Generate to create new images from scratch.
- Refine and iterate. Use the Generate button multiple times with the same prompt to create different variations. Modify your prompts by adding or removing descriptive words to fine-tune results. Combine multiple generations using layer masks and blending modes.
